The family\u2019s \u201crelocation\u201d from Westphalia to the Lower Rhein is due to his iniviative.<\/p>\n<p>As son and heir of the original family estate \u201cLoe\u201d in Marl close to Recklinghausen (the Loe Mill, still in existence today, was part of the original property) \u2013 he offered his services as bailiff to the Count of Cleves where he soon rose to great importance. As \u201ccourt master\u201d, a type of \u201cinterior minister\u201d, he became one of the Count\u2019s most important advisors and was awarded the honour of accompanying him on his trip to the holy land.<\/p>\n<p>For Johann, married to Christina (Stine) von Eyll (in these early times the exact date of the marriage is usually not known), it was important that his family be domiciled in the lands of his employer.<\/p>\n<p>His means of achieving this purpose was the wedding of his son, Wessel (IV) with Lysbeth von Berenbrouch (Berenbroich), daughter of the \u2013 in the region &#8211; important Goch official, Luff von Berenbrouck. In order for the young bridegroom \u2013 until this time without possession in the Rhineland \u2013 to become equal in standing to his bride, he needed to purchase an adequate estate in the duchy of Cleves.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily Wissen was \u201con the market\u201d at this time. The widow of Heinrich van der Straeten (who died on a crusade to the holy land) had \u2013 due to her own childlessness \u2013 already sold Wissen but, due to non-payment of the purchase price \u2013 received it back. Wissen was, therefore, up for sale again \u2013 and this time, Johann von Loe was the interested party.<\/p>\n<p>In the marriage certificate \u2013signed by both fathers (!), Johann and Luff, it was stipulated that the marriage would \u2013 as lawyers would interpret it today \u2013 remain suspended \u2013 for as long as Johann failed to acquire Wissen for his son.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously Johann did not need to worry about financing the purchase price \u2013 the 9250 gold thalers constituted a massive sum at the time. Only three months after notarisation of the marriage, the settlement of the purchase price is authenticated \u2013 the marriage of the young couple is, therefore, legally binding. Wessel thus becomes the first Loe master of Wissen.<\/p>\n<p>A special kind of curiosity exists out of the time of Johann which is worth mentioning: Wessel had an illegitimate half-brother named Brune, who \u2013 according to the understanding then \u2013 came from an illegitimate relationship of his father so that, as a consequence, he was not permitted to carry the name von Loe \u00a0(\u201conly\u201d) v<u>a<\/u>n Loe was allowed. Overhaus auf der Loeburg im Veste Recklinghausen geboren. Seiner Initiative verdankt die Familie die \u201eUmsiedlung&#8221; von Westfalen an den Niederrhein.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAls Stammhalter des urspr\u00fcnglichen Familienbesitzes \u201eLoe&#8221; in Marl bei Recklinghausen (die heute dort noch existierende Loem\u00fchle war Teil des damaligen Besitzes) &#8211; verdingte er sich als Amtmann beim Herzog von Kleve, in dessen Diensten er schnell zu gro\u00dfer Bedeutung aufstieg. Als dessen \u201eHofmeister&#8221;, einer Art \u201eInnenminister&#8221; wurde er einer seiner bedeutendsten Berater und hatte die Ehre, ihn auch bei dessen Reise in das Heilige Land begleiten zu k\u00f6nnen.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nJohann, verheiratet mit Christina (Stine) von Eyll (in diesen fr\u00fchen Zeiten ist uns das exakte Datum der Heirat in der Regel noch nicht bekannt), war daran gelegen, seine Familie auch in den Landen seines Dienstherren landans\u00e4ssig zu machen.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAls Vehikel hierzu diente die Hochzeit seines Sohnes Wessel (IV) mit Lysbeth von Berenbrouch (Berenbroich), Tochter des in der Region bedeutenden (Gocher) Amtmannes Luff von Berenbrouch.
